Turn back the clock and restore youthfulness to your skin with IPL Photorejuvenation. This light technology minimizes brown spots, sun damage, fine wrinkles, and enlarged pores. It smoothes the skin and significantly improves redness caused by aging, rosacea, and acne scarring.

First, if you can identify a source, such as over sun exposure or ingestion of a medication, do your best to decrease or eliminate that source.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a non-invasive therapy that uses pulses of light energy to fragment and break down pigmented lesions. The pigmented lesion is targeted by the light and will initially darken and lift to the surface. Within 2 weeks the lesion will crust over and will naturally slough off the skin. Most patients require a series of treatments at one month intervals. At the end of the treatment the skin will look smooth, even-toned and free of pigment.

Once the skin is sensitized, the melanocytes are hypersensitive and will repigment readily if restimulated. It is essential to protect yourself from sun exposure at all times as sun aggravates these conditions.

Pigmented lesions can also be treated with mild acids such as glycolic, kojic and retinoic acid.

Photofacial rejuvenation: In addition to treating pigmented lesions, almost all surface vascular anomalies (red veins, spider veins, and general redness) can be successfully treated in a few sessions with the Starlux Pulsed Light System. This new technique presents a relatively simple, fast and effective skin rejuvenation treatment with minimal discomfort and little downtime.

There are a variety of topical and oral medications that can help control rosacea.

Mild soaps or cleansers should be used. The face should be gently washed with the fingertips. Cosmetics and lotions (including shaving creams and lotions) should be fragrance free and non-alcohol based.
Exfoliating Agents can be too harsh to those affected with Rosacea. An alternative to alpha hydroxy acid treatment would be the use of topical Vitamin C. It has many of the same benefits and it is better tolerated by those with sensitive skin.

Sunblock is strongly recommended to prevent rosacea flare-up’s as well as overall sun damage. Sunblock should offer UVA/UVB protection and have a SPF 30 or greater. Ideal products are chemical free and non-alcohol based.

Avoid Triggers
Each individual has different “triggers” that can make their condition worse. Common “triggers” that can aggravate rosacea include:

Weather: sun, cold, strong winds, humidity
Emotions: stress, anxiety, anger
Physical exertion: exercise, occupational labor
Temperature: saunas, hot baths, overheating, warm rooms, cold   outdoors
Hormones: testosterone and estrogen
Foods: dairy products, liver, citrus fruits, vegetables including  legumes, vinegar
Beverages: hot drinks, alcoholic beverages – especially red wine, caffeinated beverages
Skin Care Products: cosmetics – especially products with alcohol or fragrance, topical cortisone creams, any cream causing irritation.
